Description dhoworth 2005-10-26 11:41:00 UTC
Distribution: SuSE Linux 9.3 (i586)
Package: Evolution
Severity: enhancement
Version: GNOME2.10.0 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: SUSE
Synopsis: pop error dialog is error-prone
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Mailer
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Please describe your feature request:

Sometimes, evolution has trouble talking to my POP server (my admin is
trying to find out why but that's a separate subject). When it does it
pops up two dialog boxes telling me about it. That's annoying - one
would be more than enough, and a warning in the status bar would be even
better!

But the most annoying thing is that the dialog box prompts for the
password (despite me having told it to remember it). If I happen to be
in some text-processing application at the time - like Evolution! or OO
or vim etc etc then it's quite likely I will type some letters followed
by Enter before I notice that I'm now corrupting Evolution's password
instead of typing my document. So then I have to go teach Evolution my
password again.

So please:
-1- Scrap the dialog box, just put the warning in the status line, or
-2- Alter the dialog so the initial focus isn't on the text field and/or
pressing Enter *doesn't* confirm a garbage password.

Thanks and regards,
Dave Howorth

Whats the error it pops up when its not able to connect to the pop server. I
have also configured my pop mail account on evolution but I don't see any
problems when fetching mails from the pop server.
Occassionally I get an error saying that "unable to authenticate to the pop
server" but after I try 2-3 times I am able to log in (This might be because of
some network problem)
I am running the latest evolution build.

the password dialog popup issue is not evolution's fault, but the fault of the window manager (metacity) you are using. i'm also running suse 9.3, and see the same issue, but evolution itself cannot change it. :-/

subodh: i've seen this annyoing popups a billion times, that part is a duplicate of bug 247373.

so marking this one here as a duplicate of bug 247373.

please feel encouraged to report any further bugs you find. thanks in advance.
