Description Simon Howard 2005-09-10 16:19:57 UTC
Particularly in the new version, the login screen configuration dialog is a
mess. There are now eight tabs by my count, many of which are useless to
most users.

It could be improved greatly by moving some of the tabs into "advanced" dialogs.
For example, having the "users" tab pop up as a separate dialog to allow
configuration of which users are displayed. Similar logic could be applied to
"XServer" and "XDMCP".

Some features are only relevant if other features are activated. For example,
if we are not using the Gtk+ greeter, why is the dialog there for me to
configure it? If we are not allowing remote logins, why is there an option to
configure the greeting message for remote users?

Why does the "accessibility" tab contain a bunch of features which are not
related to accessibility? (sound effects and theme selection controls)

The dialog is full of technical jargon that only people with in-depth Linux
experience will understand. Examples of this are "Gtk+", "XServer" and "XDMCP".
