Description Vidar Braut Haarr 2005-09-05 09:40:12 UTC
Distribution/Version: Ubuntu

I just launched gnome-keybinding-properties (never done it before) to set a key
for Open Terminal, and noticed that it looked ... funny.

Several of the keybindings are shown as hex.

Screenshot to be attached.

strange. what is your locale (language) setting?
Comment 3 Vidar Braut Haarr 2005-09-06 12:07:07 UTC
$ echo $LANG
nb_NO.UTF-8
$ echo $LANGUAGE
nb_NO:nb

Output of `locale' says:
$ locale
LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="nb_NO.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
$

I'm not sure what else to check .. Just tell me what to write in the terminal
and I'll pipe it to this bug :-)

That is Norwegian Bokmål, by the way - sorry for the spam.
gnome-keyboard-properties says model is "Generic 105-key (Intl) PC" and layout
is "Norway".
Comment 5 Christian Kirbach 2005-09-06 12:28:02 UTC
Cannot confirm with 2.10, looks like a 2.11 problem...
Comment 6 Christian Kirbach 2005-09-11 21:10:43 UTC
 export LANG="nb_NO.UTF-8" and I cannot reproduce this.
Comment 7 Stefan Nagy 2005-10-23 00:51:28 UTC
I've got the same problem with the german language setting, model "Generic
105-key (Intl) PC". I didn't realize that it's a bug until I read this report, I
use Gnome for six months now and it always looked like that...

LANG=de_AT.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_AT.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
Comment 8 Vidar Braut Haarr 2005-10-23 06:30:37 UTC
I reinstalled Ubuntu due to a HDD crash some weeks ago and the problem was there
from the first boot.

I have no idea if Ubuntu maybe does some misconfiguration, but in any case I
don't agree with gnome-keyboard-properties showing things in this fashion to the
user.
Comment 9 Christian Kirbach 2005-10-23 09:04:13 UTC
My setting is Generic 105-key (Intl) PC
I cannot reproduce with any of your locale settings.

I am running Debian with a self-compiled Gnome. I suspect this is some Ubuntu
issue. Please open up a report in their bug tracking system and put a reference
to this report so they can close it if fixed.

Christian, the Ubuntu package has no patch for this part of the code, I really
doubt it's distro specific
