GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 314031
Inconsistent naming and icon use for home directories
Last modified: 2005-08-21 07:45:12 UTC
Distribution/Version: ubuntu breezy-live Open your home directory in with nautilus in navigational mode, press up arrow. You will see two different icons and two different names for it. It should only be one. The navigation button bar now describes the home folder as [][home][Home] while the folder view actually shows up as a folder with the home symbol named as the username. (E.g. if I run the ubunto live CD the username will be ubuntu) The navigation sidebar, the navigational button bar, the places menu all use the same icon by defalt theme(a folder with a house on it) but in the nautilus toolbar the icon is a much more detailed house without a folder. The fact that we have two home:s in the button navigation bar looks a bit confusing perhaps it would be better to just use [][home][username] that way the naming would always be consistent and users would less likely mistake their own home folder for the folder whear all other home directories are located.
Created attachment 51026 [details] Screen shot To make the situation even worse if the name is internationalized the names varies even more. In the screenshot of the swedish version we see the name "Home" and "Hem" and "ubuntu" (the username) for the same folder. If we look at the panel Places meny we have yet another name "Hemmamapp" all good names, but only one of them should be used. For those of you who wondders what "Hem" and "Hemmamapp" means in english, it would be "Home" and "Home folder"
