GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 310751
gThumb seems to re-build its own thumbnails
Last modified: 2006-09-25 14:44:53 UTC
Version details: 2.6.5 Distribution/Version: fc4 I thought gThumb used the same thumbnail mechanism as Nautilus? I remember that older versions did anyway. 1. Create a new folder an populate the folder with a bunch of large images, using Nautilus. 2. Enter the folder and wait for Nautilus to build the thumbnail images. 3. Start gThumb and enter the same folder 4. Notice that the thumbnails need to be re-created again in gThumb. Meaning that the thumbnails do not instantly appear in gThumb, they are create one by one, requiring several minutes (depending on the size and quantity of images of course).
This happens because gThumb doesn't use canonical URIs for the thumbnail while Nautilus does. For example, if you have an image with the path "/home/me/silly name%.jpg" Nautilus uses "file:///home/me/silly%20name%3A.jpg" while gThumb uses "file:///home/me/silly name%.jpg".
