Description Vladimir Fofanov 2005-07-08 11:01:44 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The problem is that I can't invoke help from within GIMP. When I press F1,
Shift-F1 keys or click help item in the GIMP's menu, the Windows' system
dialog "Move item" pops up, asking me to choose folder to move the HTML help
file to. I press "Cancel" button, and then Windows' system dialog "Copy item"
pops up, asking me to choose folder to copy the same HTML help file to. When I
press "Cancel" again, the according HTML help file is automatically opened with
Notepad as plain text.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Windows XP SP2 Professional Russian
2. Install MyIE2 v.0.9.27.68
3. Install The GIMP v.2.2.7
4. Press F1 key from within GIMP.

Actual results:
I described it above.

Expected results:
I expect to get help on working with GIMP.

Does this happen every time?
Yes, it does.

Other information:
My OS is MS Windows XP SP2 Professional Russian
My default web-browser is MyIE2 v.0.9.27.68 (the shell for MSIE6.0 core)
GIMP help version is 2.0.8
GIMP is set up to use external web-browser for help system.
This situation takes place on two identically configured computers: at my work
and at home.

Bug #171200 describes a problem that seems very similar, caused by modifying the
registry using a program called Regseeker. Could you read that bug report and
let us know whether it has any relevance to your problem?
Comment 2 Vladimir Fofanov 2005-07-08 15:45:24 UTC
OK, I've just took a look at Bug #171200 and it was very useful for me. Now I
know the reason of the misbehaviour, and that's enough for me to make a choice:
GIMP help working from within the GIMP or "Copy/Move To..." in Explorer context
menues. Now I will think about my choise... :)))
It is absolutely the same situation as disribed in Bug #171200 report.
Thank you very much for so fast and accurate reaction, my best regards to all
your great team! :)

You should contact the RegSeeker developers and ask why this happens and if they
can change something in the way the copy/move to works - or direct them here to
Bugzilla, so they can speak for themselves.

Comment 5 Vladimir Fofanov 2005-07-08 16:12:53 UTC
To Michael Schumacher:
I'll send a bug report to RegSeeker developers, but I am not sure that I've
added "copy/move to..." to my registry with RegSeeker. It happened not
yesterday. :)
Anyway, thank you for help once more.
