Description Ross Burton 2005-06-26 21:00:51 UTC
Meta-bug tracking everything which needs to be done to make Sound Juicer a
viable replacement for gnome-cd.
Comment 1 Lionel Dricot 2005-07-27 09:07:02 UTC
It seems that the only missings bits are :

- CDDB editor. not needed, IMHO
- Prev/Next track button. It can be cool to have those functions, at least in
the menu with shortcut keys.
- Fast Forward/Backward : not needed IMHO

What is also needed, IMHO (and I will open separate bugs I you agree) :
- detect if a cd is already playing and mark it as playing.
- a gconf key to choose if we want to use the hardwired cdrom/soundcard or the
software one.
Comment 2 Ross Burton 2005-07-27 09:20:10 UTC
By your last point do you mean whether to use the audio connection between the
CD-ROM and the sound card, or to read the CD directly and play the samples? If
so, I'm not going to implement the former. Reading the disc directly works on
all computers and plays scratched CDs better (thanks to cdparanoia), whereas
using the audio cable doens't work on some computers (iBooks, machines with
multiple drives).
Comment 3 Lionel Dricot 2005-07-27 09:33:35 UTC
It's what I mean, indeed. The reason is that on some older computer, you want to
save as more CPU as you can, and this point makes a big difference. Also when
you want to play a CD when, for example, playing a game that takes the DSP.

Anyway, for such uses, I (and others) can just fallback to grip cd-player, it
was just a suggestion, I will not open the bug then :-).

Why Sound Juicer? Why not we write a Audio-CD playing plugins for Rythmbox? It
would make life easier for users.
Comment 5 André Klapper 2020-11-07 20:05:55 UTC
Whatever gnome-cd was or did.
