GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 308741
locale should influence default paper size
Last modified: 2005-10-09 14:00:12 UTC
The default paper should be set to A4 and not Letter, since normal people are using A4, just the f*cking americans.... OK, I mean this is a provocation, but shouldn't the paper size be set according to the current locale? Please think more about non-US users! Other information:
I agree that locale should play a role. It can not absolutely define the default (eg a french laptop user at a US conference would likely still use fr_FR, but would print to Letter not A4). PS Please avoid politics and perjoratives. This is a technical project and even as a Canadian I found your tone offensive and uncalled for.
I tried to say, that I found myself offended by the fact, that the developers just set the default paper to the US-letter without even thinking of others... I think the US/Canadian developers should be aware of these feelings they could awake... OK, next time, I'll try to say it in less provocative manner. Thanks!
The original developers (mexian and estonian) knew the limitation, as do I. None of us have had the time to rewrite the core gnome-print to properly address this.
