Description Joachim Noreiko 2005-06-19 12:29:57 UTC
Documentation bug
Section: Overview
For further information about GDM, see the the GDM website. [Link is
http://www.jirka.org/gdm.html]

Correct version:
The link should be http://yippi.hypermall.com/gdm/index.shtml

Other information:
It would be nice if the introduction paragraph at the top of this section
explained what a display manager actually is. Some of the text on the website
could be added to the docs:

'GDM is the GNOME Display Manager, it is the little proggie that runs in the
background, runs your X sessions, presents you with a login box and then tells
you to piss off because you forgot your password.'

You might want to adapt it a little ;)
Comment 1 Olav Vitters 2005-06-19 12:40:45 UTC
The website should really be at http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm. The gdm
website is so simple it shouldn't be a problem to move it.
Comment 2 Tommi Vainikainen 2005-07-19 08:01:34 UTC
I've committed a change to replace link with
http://yippi.hypermall.com/gdm/index.shtml, but I'm not closing this bug until
someone either confirms or declines about the move to gnome.org servers.
Comment 3 Brian Cameron 2005-07-19 18:38:05 UTC
Yes, I think it would be good to move the website to
http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm. I currently don't maintain any websites on
gnome.org, so I probably need someone to show me what I would need to do to set
up the website there.
Comment 4 Olav Vitters 2005-07-19 18:51:13 UTC
Brian, that is in cvs see
http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gnomeweb-wml/www.gnome.org/projects/. The
gnome-web-list should know more.
Comment 5 Brian Cameron 2005-07-19 18:58:18 UTC
Okay, so are you asking me to move the GDM2 docs into that CVS project? I can
do that. Do I need to get permission to write to that CVS module?

Also it might be nice to move the GDM2 mailing alias from gdm@sunsite.dk to
gdm@gnome.org? I suggested this move on desktop-devel-list, but nobody responded,
so am unsure what to do.

Comment 6 Tommi Vainikainen 2005-07-25 13:52:19 UTC
http://sysadmin.gnome.org/faq.html says that contact point to get mailing list
(and also cvs/web page) is gnome-sysadmin@gnome.org.
Comment 7 Olav Vitters 2005-07-25 17:11:06 UTC
Brian Cameron: about the gdm2 website, think it is ok to add that.

<bkor> can a maintainer just add his/hers project to
www.gnome.org/projects/$PROJECT, or does a gnomeweb-wml maintainer have to
approve that first?
<thos> bkor,
<thos> Only registered GNOME Website medical staff may check in changes without
<thos> approval. They are listed in the MAINTAINERS file. The other people who can
<thos> check in changes without approval are the dudes who manage their own little
<thos> areas on the website, such as module maintainers and their helpers.
<claus> thos, a redesign should be based on a style guide
<bkor> I read that, but the maintainer would create an own little area correct
or not?
<thos> bkor, I presume so
<bkor> thos: good enough for me :)
<bkor> thos: thanks
<thos> bkor, which project are you creating?
<bkor> thos: Brian Cameron wants to move the gdm website / docs there
[..]
Comment 8 Brian Cameron 2005-07-28 23:25:50 UTC
I sent an email to gnome-sysadmin@gnome.org and gnome-web-list@gnome.org just
now. Let's see how it goes.
Comment 9 Brian Cameron 2005-08-15 22:28:15 UTC
The website has now been moved to http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/. All
references to the website in the GDM head and 2.12 branch have been updated to
reflect the change. Also fixed references to the art.gnome.org website since I
noticed the links were broken. Also, now http://yippi.hypermall.com/gdm/ now
forwards to the http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/ website.

I'm leaving this bug open util we get the GDM mail alias also moved to gnome.org.
This is in process. Christian Rose is helping with this. Changing bug synopsis
to reflect mail alias instead of website.
Comment 10 Brian Cameron 2005-08-17 02:19:40 UTC
Mail alias now moved to gdm-list@gnome.org. Closing bug.
