Most of the time, the distribution of text into pages is of relevance only for
printing, no on-screen viewing. It should be possible to see the end of the
previous page and the beggining of the next simultaneously.

I sometimes use kPDF just for this feature :(

You should definitely check latest version. Evince has continuous view already.
