I believe gnome-vfs can give power on gedit to work with remote files.
gedit_utils_uri_has_scheme() should be removed.

Or does gedit team have a rule not to support remote directly?

see bug #110191 for the reasons why it doesn't support vfs saving yet...

anyway the new_mdi developement branch now supports remote file saving
