GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 305305
quit (ctrl+q) should be different from close (ctrl+w)
Last modified: 2014-09-11 06:07:02 UTC
Since I had started using evince, I wondered why it doesn't have a Quit command menu item implemented. As far as I understand, this will improve usability a lot, since Close is related to the document and Quit is related to the program itself. I don't know whether this is already contained in the HIG 2.0, but I think it is essential to improve usability in evince.
Currently it would not be possible to implement this because there are multiple evince processes. We plan to use a common shell for all windows for other reasons though. Personally I dont like Quit button but it could be just me... ccing Bryan for UI input about this.

I also don't like this kind of UI. User thinks about every window as a document. Why should we expose the idea of application? I don't think that it would be usability improvement.
If we had the D-BUS style Server and Interface system running then maybe the Quit button would make sense. It would be more like the Mac system and you'd have no other way to manually quit the server application. However for now there's no need for a quit interface.
