GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 305081
opening compressed ps/pdf files
Last modified: 2005-09-13 14:17:55 UTC
This bug has been opened here: http://bugs.debian.org/303297 "It would be great to open *.ps.bz2, *.pdf.bz2 and *.pdf.gz like ggv. Evince already opens *.ps.gz files, so please expand this feature with better compressors like bzip2 to save disc space with compressed documents."
I'm not sure it make sense to add support for these, unless they are formats actually used (good number of documents available on the internet for example). Anyway, we need these mime to be registered in the freedesktop db to be able to do anything. So, basically, I guess we can leave the call up to them. WONTFIX for now but I'll accept bugs for any type that is in the mime spec but not supported by evince.
wtf?? this bug has only uncofirmed field for me... no way to change status?
Some *cough*stupid*cough* debian package build script automatically compresses any documentation file (including pdf) larger than a certain size (probably even required by debian policy). So pdf.gz files are quite common on debian systems.
Let me mark this bug as duplicate of 307087, since it is about the same problem. But those bug has more comments on implementation.
