GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 303639
Adding contact with more addresses removes other ones from select (cannot add two addresses of the same contact)
Last modified: 2016-02-15 18:47:04 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1 Package: Evolution Severity: major Version: GNOME2.8.3 2.2.x Gnome-Distributor: Debian Synopsis: Pb when composing a mail and adding an address of a contact with two or more addresses Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Contacts [was: Addressbook] Bugzilla-Version: 2.2.x Description: Description of Problem: When composing a message in evolution, the click on the 'To:' button for adding a contact opens the select contact window. If a contact has 2 or more adresses, it appears with 2 or more lines in the list of contacts. When adding one address for that contact, all the contact entries disappears from the select list (and all the other addresses), and the only address choosed is the one selected. There is no possibilities to send a mail to the 2 or more addresses of this contact. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. add in your contact folder a contact with 2 or more addresses (one for work and one for home for example). 2. compose a new mail 3. click on the 'to:' button, select one address mail for the contact added and click on the 'to:' button. Actual Results: all the entries for the contact disappear from the contact list and only the choosen address is copied in the 'to:' section. Expected Results: only the selected address is added in the 'to' section of the window and the other entries for that contact are selectable in the contact list. All the entries for this contact could not disappear, and it could be possible to select the other addresses for that contact in order to send a mail to the other addresses of this contact. How often does this happen? every time Additional Information: you can contact me at mgarnier@actilis.net for more information. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2005-05-10 08:40 UTC ------- The original reporter of this bug does not have an account here. Mgarnier: When you search for some string, still its not appearing ? I mean, when you type partial name in search field, still the names are not appearing ?
hi, the search is correct if I type the first letters for my contact, but, with this contact with 2 mail addresses (so 2 lines in the search result), if I choose one of the addresses, the others disappears from the list and only one entry is put in the 'to:' component. After that, in the mail composer window, there is only one entry of the contact in the 'to:' field, so only one mail address for the sending of the email. There is no possibility to send the mail to the both mail addresses from the contact.
Mickael: Does this happen with personal address book or LDAP or Exchange or Groupwise address book ?
Hi, this happens with the personnal address book. I have not tested with the others address books (LDAP, exchange, groupwise...)
More information : the same problem appears with a LDAP directory. In the LDAP directory, if a contact has 2 or more mail addresses, only one is selected for the sending of the mail and the other mail addresses can not be accessed.
Reopening the bug and marking it as an enhancement.
still in 2.4.0
removing old target milestone.

I tried to reproduce this with current git master (3.19.90 release), and it works there properly. I click the "To:" button, when the dialog with selection from address books appear. Then I pick one of the email addresses for one contact and double-click it. It adds the address to the To field, removes it from the list of available addresses, and keeps in the list of available addresses only those which are not selected yet. The 3.18.x should work the same in this regard, if I'm not mistaken, but I didn't try it.
