GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 300723
Nautilus folder view is refreshing too often
Last modified: 2005-05-21 19:29:51 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1 Package: nautilus Severity: minor Version: GNOME2.10.0 2.10.x Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu Synopsis: Nautilus folder view is refreshing too often Bugzilla-Product: nautilus Bugzilla-Component: Accessibility Bugzilla-Version: 2.10.x Description: Description of Problem: The nautilus view for a folder is refreshing too often. If I have a nautilus view opened for a folder whose content is changing very fast (e.g. compilation, or mass-downloading), the view is updated too often, so that tracking a file icon is impossible. It would be better to have the view refresh triggered by a click inside the window or on an icon, or after a few seconds. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2005-04-15 06:31 ------- Unknown platform unknown. I disagree. Most people will want to see the 'current' contents of a folder. I think tracking one specific file in a rapidly changing folder is not very common.
I suppose if you stop your file monitor (famd or comparable) you will get no more auto-updates, but I am not sure.
auto-update is fine. It's just updating too often.
Hmm nautilus relies on a file alteration monitor. I assume nautilus uses its status updates. anyway I can hardly imagine view updates should be reduced.
I think refresh often is not the problem. The main probkem is that nautilus uses a lot of ressources to refresh the information regarding the folder refreshed. Is this bug really valid ? I'm changing the bugzilla component to "file and folders operation" as this is not only a Desktop problem.
