GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 261246
forgets LDAP pw and fails to reauthenticate
Last modified: 2004-10-26 19:39:50 UTC
Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you are doing. Description of Problem: My Evolution config has an LDAP directory server that uses DN authentication. This directory server is also configured to autocomplete. The first time evolution is started and i use the directory server to query the database or go to compose a message - I am prompted for my LDAP password. I enter it and all is well with the check box for 'remember password' i can do subsequent queries also. HOWEVER, after some indeterminate amount of time the evolution session forgets the password - and the next time I am prompted for a password it fails to authenticate (in fact a packet trace shows no attempt to authenticate at all). This is more than annoying. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. config LDAP settings to authenticate 2. do a query 3. run evolution for 4-8 hours 4. do a query Actual Results: you will be prompted and authentication will fail. Expected Results: you should not be prompted. (unless you didn't check the 'remember password' checkbox in which case a REAL attempt at authentication, meaning packets, should succeed). How often does this happen? everyday (4-8 hours of running). in fact once it happens i can exit evolution and restart it and it immediately fails to authenticate. if i exit evolution and kill these processes /usr/libexec/evolution/1.4/evolution-wombat /usr/libexec/evolution/1.4/evolution-alarm-notify and restart evolution - i can then get authentication to succeed. Additional Information: I also use pgp to sign email - and it remembers my password just fine. I've searched thru the bugzilla database and found many similar bugs - reportedly fixed - i assure you this is a current bug for my version of evolution. this is evolution with all snapshot and development snapshots packages available for RedHat 9 (1.4.6 2004.05.02) via red-carpet. Thanks for the otherwise awesome email program.
