GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 250873
Request to move default "read next unread" keybinding to or .
Last modified: 2013-09-13 00:54:02 UTC
okay, the subject is misleading but gives my point through. Currently the "read next unread" is bound to ] and others are bound to [ . This is quite obscure and hard to do in international keyboards where those are left+right hand keycombinations. ( left hand meta + 8 / 9 to get [] ) I'd suggest moving theese to something thats easily accessible as the functions are common. Perhaps "едц", since those are single key combinations that should be simple to type, if you live in Sweden or Finland. :) however, The defaults are quite misdeeming and should be fixed.

...since this interferes with the quick search feature of gtk >=2.6 (see bug 268644), setting target milestone to 2.5 to force a decision.

Why do not use just 'n' like Pan and Thunderbird? It would be also useful to have the same behaviour found in Thunderbird, that ask if you want to switch to another folder with unread messages, when there are no more unread messages in the current folder.
the keybinding is also on . and , i guess that's fairly easy, marking this as fixed therefore. simone: n in pine is for next message and not next unread message, afaik. your second issue has already been filed here (don't remember the bug id though)
Unfortunately those keybindings are not documented nor visible in the interface, so saying that this bug therefore is "solved" is hardly valid.
spider: yeah, iirc the problem is that somehow you can not add one key bindings to the interface, because of some weird reasons. however those shortcuts are named in the docs and the quick reference card. :-/
Can the "international-friendly" keybindings be changed to the default ones visible in the interface then, since as I see it, it wouldn't make much different to those with an us-keyboard?
