GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 246553
new release of evolution appears to be highly unstable on rh8.0 + redcarpet patches
Last modified: 2003-07-18 20:19:05 UTC
Linux version 2.4.18-19.8.0 (bhcompile@stripples.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.2 20020903 (Red Hat Linux 8.0 3.2-7)) #1 Thu Dec 12 05:39:29 EST 2002 Description of Problem: crashes on movement or deletion. i have large folders, but the previous release mostly worked fine. the current release has died a number of times in the last few minutes leaving incoherent state following the crash; the previous release had no such problems. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. use evolution---move or delete mail entries. 2. 3. Actual Results: core dumps, corrupted email state. Expected Results: proper operation. How often does this happen? every few minutes of use. Additional Information: Debugging Information: Backtrace was generated from './evolution' (no debugging symbols found)...(no debugging symbols found)... Please try to upgrade gnome-canvas to the latest version. Please REOPEN this report if that doesn't fix the problem.
Is your server IMAP or POP? Also, backtrace doesn't look helpful since there are no debug symbols. An unstripped Evolution version would help a lot.
if there is an unstripped/debug version of the release then i will install it. otherwise i'll grab a release source tree and build a debug version from that (making the assumption that i get all the ducks in a row to actually get it to build). i'm using an imap interface to the exchange server. for some reason they won't enable the interfaces required to support ximian connector. i'm probably a conspiracist (?!) but i suspect (without proof or rumor of any kind) that there must be some outside pressure attempting to lock people into using only outlook to access email.... ;-{
