GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 245709
No usable keyboard shortcut to show/hide preview pane
Last modified: 2003-07-01 23:57:58 UTC
Description of Problem: When reading mail in Evolution I have no keyboard shortcut to show/hide the preview pane. The View menu indicates ` as the shortcut, but there is no such key on my Danish keyboard. I have a dead ` key for entering accents, and I can enter a ` in a text field by pressing this key followed by a space, but that has no effect and even if it had some effect, it is very awkward. The alternative is via the menu, using M-v p, which is usable but only just. It should be a single key stroke, but please, something that is actually on the keyboard. It used to be 'q', but it was changed for some reason. I use a computer with a Danish keyboard. I use the C locale, except for LC_CTYPE=da_DK Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Use a computer with a keyboard without a ` key 2. Start Evolution mail 3. Try to enter a ` to show/hide the preview pane Actual Results: You can't and the preview pane doesn't show/hide Expected Results: How often does this happen? Every time. Additional Information: Please chose keyboard that works for everybody, which means not using accepts for shortcuts. The current shortcut is about as sensible as if you had used æ og ñ for the shortcut. Try to type that on a US keyboard!
probably a duplicate... I know it's been discussed on the lists a year or so ago...
