GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 240755
Very slow start / stop and e-mail download
Last modified: 2003-05-06 16:16:18 UTC
Description of Problem: Very slow startup/shutdown. On the order of several minutes. very large .#mbox.ibex.index.data and .#mbox.ibex.index files left in folders after shutdown. Example: -rw------- 1 bferrell bferrell 30007959 Apr 3 16:39 mbox -rw------- 1 bferrell bferrell 165404 Apr 3 16:39 mbox.ev-summary -rw------- 1 bferrell bferrell 12112896 Apr 3 16:44 .#mbox.ibex.index -rw------- 1 bferrell bferrell 1478656 Apr 3 16:37 mbox.ibex.index -rw------- 1 bferrell bferrell 15574264 Apr 3 16:44 .#mbox.ibex.index.data -rw------- 1 bferrell bferrell 2927132 Apr 3 16:37 mbox.ibex.index.data removing the .# files speeds up restart, but must be done manually. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. start evolution 2. download new mail via pop 3. delete unwanted messages 4. shutdown evolution Actual Results: Large .#* files left in directory Expected Results: Large .#* files removed How often does this happen? Everytime, becoming worse if .# files are not removed. Mail download slow significantly if the .# files are not removed.
the .# files are only ever left if evolution crashes or if you kill it before it finishes compressing the index files.
It doesn't seem to be crashing. I also get the evolution shutdown splash when I shutdown, so I don't think I'm killing it.
