GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 234540
Single quote (') inappropriate as a command
Last modified: 2002-11-25 20:18:19 UTC
Package: Evolution Priority: Cosmetic Version: 1.2.0 Synopsis: Single quote (') inappropriate as a command Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Mailer Description: Description of Problem: The single quote (') is used as a "dead-key" for people with US-style keyboards who need to input accented characters. The current version of Evolution uses "'" as a synonym for View->Preview Pane (a toggle). Previous versions used "Q", but this now means "switch to a folder starting with Q". Alternative solutions: 1) Restore the previous behaviour, and add a "search" prefix command. e.g. "/" for the switch-folders function 2) Allow general remapping of hotkeys according to taste 3) Pick an alternative to "'" (such as a function key). Note that other dead-keys may exist in common keymaps so be careful! Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Set up a standard 104- or 105-key keyboard as "US International" (I use the KDE Control Panel widget). Make sure <"> <'> and <~> are working as dead keys. Typing the sequence < 'a > in a text widget should give <á>. 2. Now try to toggle the Preview Pane using <'> 3. Try combinations such as <' > (single-quote space) or <''> (two single quotes) Actual Results: Nothing happens Expected Results: Preview Pane should toggle How often does this happen? Always Additional Information: Unknown reporter: poc@usb.ve, changed to bugbuddy-import@ximian.com. Setting qa contact to the default for this product. This bug either had no qa contact or an invalid one.
