Description yort5thor 2002-11-12 16:44:50 UTC
Description of Problem:

"Send / Recieve " is friggin' slow.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Click "Send / Recieve"
2. Wait *forever*
3. Get mail

Actual Results:

This isn't a major showstopper, but it is quite annoying. Everything works
(well, sort of), but checking mail takes considerably and quite noticeably
longer than it did under 1.0.8.

Expected Results:

Faster!

How often does this happen?

I haven't seen it go fast (and by fast, I mean even when there's no mail to
download it takes upwards of 30 seconds to a minute to complete the
transaction)

Additional Information:
Two additional bits of info: I'm checking a Yahoo! Mail pop3 account, and
I have my settings set to "Leave messages on the server"

There have also been anomalies (mainly the first couple of times) where
Evolution would download messages it had already downloaded (because the
messages themselves were still on the server, but marked "read").

...and your server doesn't support CAPA and/or UIDL and so we have to
md5sum all the message headers in order to see if we've downloaded the
message(s) in a previous session.

this is what takes so long.

suggest unchecking "leave on server" if you want it to be faster.

Unchecking "Leave messages on server" is not acceptable, as that would
remove that functionality. ;)

Seriously, tho - I assume you mean to say that Yahoo! Mail must not
suppoert CAPA and/or UIDL (whatever those are) - is this something I
could bug them about?

And is this different from before? It never seemed to take this long
with 1.0.8.

Oh well, carry on - it looks like you have a bunch more bugs to worry
about that are much more major. Thanks for all the work, I love
Evolution!

dunno, you might be able to bug them about it.

Since I see someone else ran into this, I thought I'd add my recent
experience - while using Mozilla Mail (on Windows) for the briefest of
moments, I was surprised to see my mail be checked almost
instantaneously. This is for the exact same Yahoo! account that I
normally use with Evolution, and with the exact same settings (ie,
Leave Messages on Server).

Could someone explain why Mozilla Mail can do this so fast and
Evolution can't (even though it used to)?

I don't mean to complain, of course, but the geeky side of me is
curious to know.

Thanks, Troy
