Description:
Startup a gnome-terminal, pick a pixmap file for your background,
I'm using a very small PNG (which i'd include if I could).  

Then: Settings->Prefs->Image

Turn On "background should be shaded", click "Apply".
Turn Off "background should be shaded", click "Apply".

gnome-terminal dies:

Gdk-ERROR **: BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)
  serial 7022 error_code 4 request_code 56 minor_code 0
