GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 205210
Selected Message jump around in Threaded Message Mode
Last modified: 2005-11-15 02:22:21 UTC
If I turn on the "Threaded Message List" feature, and then use the "Date" tab to sort messages by date, start with the first message and start hitting "Delete", the messages will not stay in the same order - The selected message will jump down, past a few messages, and then when I delete that, it will jump back up, and so on. Hit delete a few times in a row to see what I mean. This mainly seems to happen when deleting the first message in a thread.
I checked out Netscape Communicator, and it handles this issue by setting the next message in the thread to be leading message, and groups the remaining messages underneath the new leading message, without modifying the order of the threaded messages. This provides for a much smoother experience.
isn't this an ETree bug?
No ETree just groups them the way the mailer tells it to
Checking out the status of this bug in Beta2 (0.12), I noticed that the problem only occurs if "Hide Deleted Messages" is selected. If "Hide Deleted Messages" is not selected, the tree is not re-sorted, and thus the messages do not appear to jump around.
It would be nice if it would keep the sort order the same until messages are expunged or a new sort is specifically requested. As it is, it is terribly annoying to be reading mail in threaded mode with hidden deleted messages. As you use ^D to delete messages, eventually you tend to be at the very last message in the mailbox and end up reading the remaining threads in reverse order.
Weird. bug 203737 indicates that I've marked this bug as a duplicate of it, but this bug says nothing about that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 203737 ***
