Description Miles Lane 2001-07-21 00:24:05 UTC
Eventually, Evolution will have a large installed base.
Since it takes a long time to populate an addressbook,
it is likely that people will want to migrate or merge in
addressbooks from multiple accounts/machines where they use
Evolution.

I have already run into this in testing.

Assigning these for 1.1
Comment 2 Luis Villa 2001-11-26 17:04:00 UTC
Because of the decision to remap 1.1->1.2 and 1.2->1.4, I'm going to be
moving a large number of bugs around in the bugzilla. You can just
search on 'body contains' 'Because of the decision to remap' and mark
all as read. Please direct all questions about this change to
evolution@ximian.com, not the bug.

Comment 3 Gerardo Marin 2002-06-06 17:23:12 UTC
This can be done now (1.1.0.99) by selecting and saving as vcard.
Comment 4 Miles Lane 2002-06-06 23:20:40 UTC
Uh, this is not an acceptable solution.
Who is going to sit around and export a ton of
vcard files and then import them one at a time.
There should be a batch method of doing this.
Comment 5 Gerardo Marin 2002-06-07 16:57:45 UTC
In 1.1.0.99:
While in contacts: Edit/Select All then File/Save as vcard, default
file name is 'list.vcf' and contains all contacts in vcf format (which
in turn, can be imported into Evolution).

Since you have to have the choice of exporting any number of contacts
(not all everytime) and hence the selection step, I can't think of a
better/simpler solution.
If you do, please reopen.
Comment 6 Miles Lane 2002-06-07 19:30:09 UTC
Well, what would be great would be to have an "Export Address List"
on the Contacts File menu right next to "Import". This item could
cause all contacts to be written out using the mechanism you mention.
Then, the Import menu item, which is already there, can be used for
importing that information.

Pretty straightforward, since the functionality is already there.
Just remove the user hassle of having to select things and doing
the export as vcard business. This is just a usability issue.

Let's ask Anna. Reassinginig.

exporting addressbooks still missing in
evolution-2.1.3.2.0.200501160930-0.snap.ximian.10.1, importing only
supports ldif and vcf.
Comment 10 André Klapper 2005-03-31 18:18:09 UTC
adding interop keyword
Comment 11 Srinivasa Ragavan 2005-08-23 07:11:27 UTC
evolution-addressbook-export is a tool for this purpose. You can export as
vcard/csv and then import them as vcard. there is a tool for converting csv to
vcard also there.

I guess the solution is already there. This is a mass exported, so put as a
seperate tool. you can see it in
$PREFIX/libexec/evolution/2.4/evolution-addressbook-export

I guess this solves your purpose. Im closing this as fixed.
