Description Raj 2005-03-08 08:37:42 UTC
A usability issue with nautilus, if i am right.

When a user has a few windows open in spatial mode & a few others in
browser mode, then the menu option File->Close all windows, implicitly
suggest the user that all nautilus windows would be closed. But actually
this option closes all browser mode windows only & ignores the spatial windows.
This is a wee bit misleading, imo.

But, if the user had only spatial windows open, then the option
File->Close all Folders, makes good sense to him, as he has visible proof of the
fact that every double-click on a folder opened a new window.

imo, the option in browser mode should be changed to something like
'Close Browser Windows'. This would give a clear picture to the user as to
what the option does.

And i feel the best solution would be have a common option which closes
all windows irrespective of the windows being in spatial mode or browser mode.

Comments ?

The separation between spatial and navigational mode windows was introduced
intentionally. IMHO it would still be nice to bind ctrl-shift-Q to really have
all, navigation and spatial, windows closed.

FWIW, Ctrl-Shift-Q doesn't quite feel like the right shortcut to me... it's not doing anything related to Quit,
and as a Mac user, I kind of expect it to log me out altogether :) Cc'ing usability-maint to see if anyone
has any more helpful thoughts... but personally, I'd just like File->Close all Windows to close all my
windows, period, whether I have a spatial or a browser window focused.

I'd agree with Calum... updating component.

Closes all nautilus windows on "Close all folders" / "Close all windows" (Ctrl + Q) (#169573)

This doesn't seem to be relevant anymore now that we don't do spatial.
