Description Charles R. Twardy 2005-02-22 22:54:50 UTC
Distribution/Version: Debian/ppc

Set your browser to open new pages in the existing window or a new tab.
Start your browser on your browser desktop.
Go to another desktop, like your chat desktop.
Use any app that makes URLs active, like gaim.
Click on a URL.
*Poof* your browser is now on your chat desktop. AAARGH!!!!

For months I have been copying the URL and pasting it into the browser to avoid
this. Finally I tried switching WMs. But maybe the right answer is to have
metacity "do the right thing".

The only related bugs I found were the two about startup notification (search
for that or "launch") but I wasn't sure this was really the same thing. Hence
the new bug.

Sounds like a duplicate of bug 128380, just fixed a couple days ago (you'd need
metacity-2.9.21 to enjoy the fix, or CVS HEAD). Ubuntu packages the most recent
metacity--could you give their bleeding edge livecd a try to see if this works
for you?
Comment 2 Charles R. Twardy 2005-02-23 00:20:50 UTC
Yes, this duplicates bug 128380. I got CVS HEAD and compiled. Trouble installing.

Window manager error: Failed to scan themes directory: Error opening directory
'/usr/bin/share/themes': No such file or directory

How do I make it look in /usr/local/share/themes?
Comment 3 Elijah Newren 2005-02-23 00:25:17 UTC
./configure --datadir=/usr/local/share, I believe.

Anyway, since it's a duplicate I'll reopen this and mark it as such.

Well, that wasn't it, but brazen symlinks hacked around the problem.
Yes, this fixes the problem. Thank you.
