GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 166086
Tidy XML bookmarks on save
Last modified: 2014-08-26 19:51:38 UTC
Hi, Bill Wohler expressed in Debian bug <http://bugs.debian.org/293288> the wish that the XML file holding the bookmarks, .galeon/bookmarks.xbel, be stored in a CVS-friendly way. He provided a Perl script that I'll attach to explain what he meant. I think that using "xmltidy" might permit the same thing. Regards,

Loic, xmltidy (tidy on Debian), is precisely the thing. I didn't know about it--thanks for the pointer! I invoked tidy as follows: tidy -xml -wrap 1000 -indent -modify bookmarks.xbel It would be nice not to have to do this before checking in the bookmarks, so if Galeon wrote bookmarks.xbel in this format, that would save me a step. At any rate, I just spent well over 4 painful hours merging two bookmark.xbel files because of the current format. Now that I've saved the tidied bookmarks, merging won't be a problem as long as I remember to run tidy before checking in, but a well-formatted bookmarks file will save someone else this bother.
Galeon has not seen any code changes since May 2010: https://git.gnome.org/browse/archive/galeon/log This project is not under active development anymore and got recently archived in GNOME Git. It is currently unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality.
