GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 164850
RFE: Improvement to appearance of folders where you don't have viewing permission
Last modified: 2011-08-10 11:46:07 UTC
Currently if you open a folder e.g. on a Samba share you can get this dialog: "The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of WHEREVER" You're then left with an empty folder view. This has always seemed a bit wrong to me; the folder isn't empty, it's just that you're not allowed to look inside. So perhaps the folder should instead have some widgetry explaining what the problem is, perhaps with an "Unlock" button? See this mockup Bryan did for evince: http://www.gnome.org/~clarkbw/designs/document-viewer/locked%20evince.png Other information:
Just to note how this turned out in the implementation: http://www.gnome.org/projects/evince/images/screenshot-secret_document.pdf-full.png
This missed 2.14 UI freeze, but we now have means to add extra widgets to the view which we could use for displaying this information. Confirming.
