I have this 'aha - ha - take on me.mp3' file here, when playing it in totem with
the gst backend it hangs. Visualization with other mp3's work just fine. Playing
this file without visualization in totem also works.

perhaps you could share this file to testif it is reproductible on other system.
Don't think I love A-ha, this is only intented for debugging purpose :).

Is that a dup of #164069? Can you check the debug logs (--gst-debug=alsa*:5)?
