GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 162041
Please support all HTML named entities and HTML escapes
Last modified: 2008-09-07 13:34:50 UTC
We would like to put various Unicode characters into our documentation so that the generated HTML output shows the correct characters. Unfortunately, HTML escapes like æ and æ are not supported in doxygen, but É is parsed correctly in doxygen. Our documentation tends to use a lot of Unicode characters. So support for HTML escapes, instead of named entities, would be the best solution. The lack of consistent support for this feature causes some problems when our documentation is trying to use non-English words. Instead of showing the real character, it outputs the literal character escape. Since the doxygen outputs the pages in iso-8859-1, we can't use utf-8 directly either. So we can't seem to find a work around for this problem. More documentation on the named entities feature can be found here: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/sgml/entities.html I am currently using version 1.2.18 on Cygwin. I wasn't able to find any documentation in the doxygen release notes about this problem being fixed.
FYI this bug is related to bug 159291. I need a way to use all Unicode characters in our documentation.
In the meantime doxygen output's everything encoded as UTF-8, so this problem should be solved.
