Description Bradlee Landis 2004-12-08 02:14:54 UTC
In most other tabbed windows (gaim, etc (probably epiphany, but don't have it
installed)), to browse tabs, you use ctrl-pageup and ctrl-pagedown. I would
like to be able to push ctrl-pagedown to go to the tab to the right, and
ctrl-pageup to go the other way
Comment 1 Paolo Borelli 2004-12-08 11:33:03 UTC
note that the behavior is already available with ctrl+alt-pgUp/pgDown... however
I would like to get rid of the "alt" myself... Paolo (Maggi), is there a reason
why the additional alt was added? ctrl+pgUp/pgDown doesn't seem to be binded to
anything...
Comment 2 Paolo Borelli 2004-12-08 11:36:35 UTC
oops my bad. ctrl+pgUp/pgDown move the cursor to the beginning/end of the line.

so ctrl+alt+pgUP/pgDown look like the better alternative.

Wait, what's wrong with "Home" and "End"?? Don't they move the cursor to the
begginning/end of the line??

It also seems to me like there should be common keyboard shortcuts among
programs thoughout gnome. Does anyone else think this should be common among
programs in gnome. Excuse me if the community doesn't agree, but I think this
needs some more looking into. Could this be discussed by the freedesktop.org
people to decide what the keyboard shortcut should be? I really don't see a
point to ctrl-pgdn being bound to move to end of the line whenever you have an
end button on your keyboard that does the same thing (same with ctrl-pgup/home).

"Home" and "End" move the cursor to the beginning/end of the line.
"Ctrl+pgUp" and "Ctrl+pgDown" move the cursor to the beginning/end of the paragraph.
This is not the right place to discuss this sort of issues since this is not a
gedit problem.
Please, send a mail to the usability ML if you want to discuss this issue with
the right persons.
BTW, I think the current shortcuts work well and as expected.
