See title, It would be more integrated than the buttons on the toolbar, and more 
access due to being able to see the hierachy of the network.

Other information:
This is an idea similar to Windows Explorer and Xandros File Manager 
implementations of tree view.

I think this might be kind of resolved in ubuntu.  You can add these things to 
their panel sidebar.
