Description lauri.jarvenpaa 2004-11-22 22:22:21 UTC
GIMP 2.2 has somewhat fixed the highly erraneous way to handle tablet strokes by
multiplying the previous dab instead of comparing (it seems).

But now it has drawing artifacts.
Any stroke drawn (even with all pressure functions disabled) has these "spots"
of darker stroke.

This happens both with paintbrush and airbrush. It does not happen when drawing
straight lines or when using pen.

In the attachment there are several example strokes drawn with 1x1 round
paintbrush tool without any pressure effects. No size, no opacity, just strokes.

Oops, I don't remember to have changed the component. Changing back to Tools.

One thing I forgot to mention: this bug didn't exist with GIMP 2.0.
I tried to repeat it with GIMP 2.0 when I was checking ink tool bug without any
success.

It seems to have appeared first time in GIMP 2.2.
But since GIMP 2.0 had other horrible bugs with pressure handling reverting is
not an option.

This actually could be a feature if would be controllable :)
Like the size, shape and frequency of random plots.

Developers should get tablets for testing purposes. Wacom could give them for
free if asked.

We have tablets. Our compiler and operating system is just not as broken as yours.
Comment 5 Sven Neumann 2004-11-23 16:29:36 UTC
According to drc this problem is not reproducible on Linux. If I get a chance to
try my tablet later this week, I will have another look but it seems that these
tablet problems can only be reproduced on your system which makes it very likely
that it is a driver bug.

>Our compiler and operating system is just not as broken as yours.

Oh Your Highness, I beg forgiveness for using such a foul compiler (gcc) and
wretched operating system (bsd).

I have tried three different drivers: native compiled X.org driver, Linuxwacom
0.6.4 prebuilt and Linuxwacom 0.6.5 beta prebuilt. As I have serial model (not
USB) Intuos2 I can use prebuilt X11 Linux drivers.

And this problem does not exist with GIMP 2.0, just with 2.2.

Anyway I will report these problems to maintainers of FreeBSD GIMP port.

I apologize, my mistake.

It appears that this was a result of having HistorySize setting in XF86Config.
When I removed HistorySize from configuration, this problem vanished.

HistorySize was inherited to config from some how-to documents that drifted
around net.

Closing as NOTGNOME.
