Distribution: Debian 3.1
Package: file-roller
Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.6.1 2.6.x
Gnome-Distributor: Debian
Synopsis: weather applet stops responding
Bugzilla-Product: file-roller
Bugzilla-Component: general
Bugzilla-Version: 2.6.x
Description:
Description of Problem:

The weather applet occasionally stops updating its information.

The only way to fix it is to remove the applet, and then put it back.

Incidentally (and maybe there should be a bug report filed on this too),
the applet doesn't remember its configuration after being removed from
the panel, so you must do it all again.

This happens on multiple machines in different LAN and dialup
configurations, so it's unlikely to be related to a specific network
problem.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. put weather applet in panel
2. eventually it stops updating
3. remove from panel
4. add back to panel
5. reconfigure applet
6. works for awhile (can be hours or even weeks)
7. repeat

Actual Results:

weather applet stops updating

Expected Results:

weather applet updates as configured

How often does this happen?

Re-assigning to the weather applet.

When you remove applets they lose their configuration, this is expected behaviour.

Occasionally the applet gets stuck in the "Updating..." mode, I think we need a
time out waiting for our callback from gnome-vfs, I will look into this.

If it just jammed up, you can run `killall gweather_applet_2` and reload the
applet, then you don't have to remove it, and won't lose your settings.

Marking 'high', it's a nasty bug if we can duplicate it.
Comment 4 Danielle Madeley 2005-01-03 04:29:14 UTC
Luis, I'm pretty sure I know what causes it. Need to think of a solution for it.
Comment 5 Danielle Madeley 2005-12-21 08:54:07 UTC
I think James Henstridge's HTTPResource work is going to fix this. CCing.
Comment 6 Marius Gedminas 2006-06-27 13:53:22 UTC
FWIW this still happens occasionally in 2.14.2: the weather applet may get stuck in the "Updating..." state for days.
