1) Open Nautilus in browser mode 
2) Single / Double click (as per your preferences) on a file that should be
previewable (eg JPG, HTML)
3) Nautilus tries to open an application to view the file - no applications have
been registered for these filetypes.

Alternatively:
1) Open Nautilus in browser mode with the tree visible
2) Click on the file in the tree on the left
3) Nautilus displays the file briefly then returns to the parent folder and
displays the contents of the parent
