Description Joe Barnhart 2004-08-25 22:36:45 UTC
Trying to edit a screen shot taken from OS/2, this JPEG file will not open under
GIMP. The ptogress bar marches to 100% but never closes. If I 'cancel' the
load, I get the following message:

(gimp-2.0.exe:3784): Gimp-Plug-In-WARNING **: Terminating C:\Program Files\GIMP-
2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\jpeg.exe ...

Sample file attached.

Comment 2 Manish Singh 2004-08-25 22:54:50 UTC
This one I can't reproduce on linux. Given where it hangs, I'd say it's likely a
bug in libexif causing this. What version of libexif is used on the windows builds?
Comment 3 Joe Barnhart 2004-08-25 23:27:07 UTC
In the GIMP-2.0\bin directory I see a file called libexif-9.dll creation date
Sunday, July 20, 2003, 9:31:50 PM.
Comment 4 Manish Singh 2004-08-25 23:37:18 UTC
The windows build uses an ancient libexif. The installer should be updated to
use 0.6.9.
Comment 5 Michael Schumacher 2004-08-26 09:31:08 UTC
Confirming that this hanging doesn't happen anymore with libexif 0.6.9 on Win32.
Comment 6 Sven Neumann 2004-09-14 11:12:09 UTC
Has the installer been updated to use a newer version of libexif in the meantime?
Comment 7 Lorenzo Paulatto 2004-09-24 09:45:44 UTC
I'm having the same problem in Linux SuSe 9.1
libexif is version 9.1.2 (libexif.so.9.1.2) but i cannot ope all the jpeg
images created with a certain digital camera.
You can find an example image here:

Comment 8 Sven Neumann 2004-09-24 10:11:29 UTC
Lorenzo, this image loads fine here. It is almost certainly a problem with your
setup or SuSE shipping a broken library.
Comment 9 weskaggs 2004-09-24 15:11:39 UTC
The version of libexif in SuSE 9.1 is known to have problems, see bug #142252.
Comment 10 Sven Neumann 2004-09-28 21:58:06 UTC
Jow, does this still happen for you if you update to GIMP 2.0.5?
Comment 11 weskaggs 2004-12-27 23:53:40 UTC
Closing as FIXED on the basis of the comments here, even though the reporter has
not responded to a NEEDINFO asking for verification.
Comment 12 Joe Barnhart 2004-12-28 00:39:46 UTC
Sorry for not responding. I lost interest when I tried to report the ancient
library to the maintainer of the Windows distribution and was unable to contact
him. I have switched to other programs and don't plan to return to GIMP.
Comment 13 weskaggs 2004-12-28 16:27:38 UTC
Well, thanks anyway for taking the trouble to respond.
