Description reirob 2004-08-06 07:20:46 UTC
Distribution: Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16
Package: nautilus
Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.6.2 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Gentoo Linux
Synopsis: Nautilus list view doesn't allow to select a file/folder object with the keyboard (SPACE or ENTER key) when it contains ONLY one object.
Bugzilla-Product: nautilus
Bugzilla-Component: Keyboardability
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Description of Problem:

When opening a folder, that contains only one file or one subfolder,
with the List View, it is not possible to highlight/mark this file with
the keys SPACE or ENTER or the UP/DOWN keys (like this is done when
there are at least two entries). Therefore it is not simple to open this
entry with the keyboard. Sure there is the possibility to do this by
typing the first letter of the file, BUT IT IS NOT CONSISTENT.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open a folder that contains only one subtype in List View.
2. The widget selected by default is the first column of the list view.
3. Press the DOWN or TAB key to select the file or subfolder.
4. Try to highlight or open this entry by pressing SPACE or ENTER key.

Actual Results:

The selected item is not highlighted nor is it opened.

Expected Results:

There should be a key binding (for example SPACE) that allows to
highlight the list items in nautilus.

How often does this happen?

Always.

Additional Information:

The same behaviour is also for folders that contain more then one item.
But the first item is never highlighted. So it is necessary to press
DOWN and then UP to highlight the first item.
