The panel encountered a problem while loading
"OAFIID:GNOME_WorkspaceSwitcherApplet".
Details: Failed to resolve, or extend

Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

problem only arises when gnome-panel is called from .xinitrc

is not a problem if it is started from a terminal within x
