Description Jaap A. Haitsma 2004-07-17 11:24:30 UTC
I currently have nautilus configured such that my home directory is my desktop.
This is in order to use spatial nautilus to the max.
I got convinced doing this after reading http://osnews.com/story.php?news_id=7548
The author of the article suggests to hide a number of directories which are
hardly accessed by normal users (such as bin, Evolution or Templates) to make it
even easier. Renaming these ones to .directories does not really help because
when using a terminal you probably like to see them when you do ls in a terminal
you would like to see them.

I propose to have have a context menu item for items on the desktop which says
"Invisible". This does not rename the folder but just makes it invisible on the
desktop. A context menu item when you click on the desktop could then have an
item which says "Show Invisible".

OK I discovered by accident when browsing the devel-desktop list. That you can
place files in a .hidden file. But I think this is an undocumented feature. Also
it would be handy if you can make a file hidden/invisble by doing this in Nautilus
