Description Bryan Cole 2004-07-08 19:56:45 UTC
Distribution: Fedora Core release 1 (Yarrow)
Package: nautilus
Severity: enhancement
Version: GNOME2.6.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: GARNOME
Synopsis: how about a useful OpenTerminalHere context-menu option
Bugzilla-Product: nautilus
Bugzilla-Component: Desktop
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
What was the point of the new "Open Terminal" menu item, new in
gnome-2.6?

It would have been more (ok, very) useful if this feature provided the
ability to open a terminal at whatever point of the directory-tree the
Nautilus focus is currently at. (like the various g-scripts available on
sourceforge).

Instead, this is simply a shortcut for opening gnome-terminal at the
users home-directory. What benefit does this bring? The user can already
drag a laucher to either their desktop, or panel, or use the menu-item
to open gnome-terminal at their home-dir, so what's the point of add one
more way to do that same thing.

Sorry if that I'm ranting. It's just that a little bit more thought
could have turned this into a really useful feature. A missed
opportunity I think.

Bryan

See bugs 91989, 143917, 114227

And, amusingly enough, bug 131792 wants it removed from the Desktop
