allow unmounting by dropping the filesystem icon (or the disk icon) to the
trash. Eventually the trash icon should change  or get an emblem to reflect the
operation. For reference: see MacOS X trash.

This functionality appears to be ruled out by the HIG.  See
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/1.0/usabilityprinciples.html under
"Create a Match Between Your Application and the Real World", the text that
says, "On the other hand, a waste basket should not be used for anything other
than holding discarded files. It should not be used, for example, to eject a
removable disk such as a floppy or CD."
