GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 143917
"Open Terminal Here" optional in each folder
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Perhaps you could consider creating a gconf key that allows the user to enable the option of opening a terminal in the current folder. This would save valuable typing time and inconvenience for those of us who still use the CLI. I understand that the desktop is not aimed at such people, so a key would allow you to ship with the option disabled, removing the "Open Terminal Here" option from the context menu on the desktop and the in each folder. Everybody wins.
This can be accomplished as-is: Right click on any folder, go to: Open With->An Application Select the line containing 'Terminal', click the modify button below, and then choose the 'Include in menu for "Folder" items' option. Subsequently, a menu item which opens that folder in a terminal will be available to the right of 'Open With'.
Actually, what I described isn't quite the same... Oh well.
Gosh Jeremy, don't you know that choosing a menu item with your mouse is the same as a (non-documented) short-cut key? ;) See bugs 91989, 114227
