I am using GIMP 2.0.0 Windows release downloaded from Jernej Simoncic. 

I downloaded it, installed it, created a new file, and used the text tool to
enter text. Then when I click on the Font icon to change the font, I get a
scroll box of all the fonts. When scrolling down in that box, suddenly the GIMP
program completely exits.

It is possible that this has to do with fonts that are invalid somehow or that
GIMP can't read. GIMP 1.2 could not read some of my fonts.

This has been reported about 243 times.  Fixed in 2.0.1, which Jernej has not
yet packaged.  Meantime see http://gug.sunsite.dk/forum/?threadid=1573 and
http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/faq.html for suggestions.

Please note that the fix is _not_ in gimp-2.0.1. It's in pango >= 1.3.1.
