GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 139860
Focusing new window automatically should be avoidable
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Giving focus automatically to new windows even if they are not under the mouse cursor goes against sloppy focus semantics and gives an annoying user experience, at least to me. Oftentimes I eg. order up a new browser window and immediately switch to a terminal window (which incidentally is even on another screen) to do some other stuff. The new browser window can easily take a bit of time to appear, and then grabs the focus even though it is not under the cursor, which is what sloppy focus is all about. If nothing else, there should be a gconf key to control this behaviour, though I'd think it should be the default not to focus anything not under the cursor in sloppy mode.
