GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 139368
GIMP goes bye bye when I try to save...
Last modified: 2005-01-22 09:48:59 UTC
I open up GIMP and DOS runs, it yells at me and tells me it cannot load MS Sans Serif 8. This is all fine and dandy until you try to save (save, save as, save copy), as soon as you enter a name and hit ok..."**(process:4294492343):WARNING (recursed)**: Couldn't load font "MS Sans Serif 8" falling back to "Sans 8" aborting..." Then you hit ok, and "Runtime Error! Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\GIMP-2.0 \BIN\GIMP-2.0.exe abnormal program termination" And then the program crashes. I'm sure you can see how not being able to save could be a problem.
Most probably an encoding problem. What locale are you running in? What is the encoding of your filesystem?
I don't know, can you tell me how to find out?
You seem to be using Windows, so the first thing that would be nice to know is which version of Windows you are using (2000, XP, ...) including service packs if any. Then what kind of filesystem are you using? You can find that in the properties of the drive on which you have installed the GIMP (NTFS, FAT32, ...). Finally, check if you have set any locale-specific variables in your environment such as LANG or any LC_* variable. If not, then at least tell us in what language you are running Windows and the GIMP. That should already help us a bit.
It's Windows ME, the filesystem is FAT32, and everything is in English.
This might be a problem with the GTK-Wimp theme. Please read http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/faq.html and tell us if that helps.
I am going to resolve this as NOTGNOME, on the grounds that it is almost certainly one of the known Windows font issues.
Regardless of what the original problem was, it caused the GIMP to attempt to display a warning message. But because of font configuration issues, that warning message could never be displayed and instead a fatal "recursed" error from Pango caused GLib to abort as described in bug #163740 and others such as bug #112401. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 112401 ***
