Description Reuben Chew 2004-03-26 15:53:41 UTC
I'm rather disappointed with GIMP 2 Windows, I submitted this bug in Pre1 and
Pre2, in Pre4 it wasn't fixed, and in GIMP 2.0.0 it is still not fixed.

When you choose the Webdings font or another font near the letter 'm' from the
font list in GIMP for Windows, GIMP 2.0.0 exits suddenly. I think it's the
unicode thingy issue in GIMP 2.0.0.

Please, please, please fix this bug! I've been waiting since pre1 for this bug
to be solved, and it hasn't been...

I use GIMP for my graphics, and the text tool is very essential to me... Using
latest GTK+ for Windows too.

The problem seems to be in fontconfig. We're currently looking into the
situation; see bug #137550, bug #136786 and bug #132366. Perhaps it would have
helped if you had told us that the problem persisted. #132366 is marked as fixed
and nobody had a reason to reopen it. Now it looks adequate to do so.

Thanks, I hope you'll solve it soon. The devs kept saying that they would fix
it but still haven't. At least I'm not alone!

The bug is in Pango and it has been fixed a long time ago. You will need
Pango-1.4 if you want to use fonts that do not provide a Unicode mapping.

Comment 5 Reuben Chew 2004-03-28 12:03:21 UTC
Well, then Pango 1.4 should be recompiled in the Windows version of GIMP2.
Comment 6 Sven Neumann 2004-03-28 13:21:08 UTC
Well, then, why don't you do just it? Please note that this bug-tracker is about
problems in the GIMP source code and we also take and reassign bugs in libraries
used by The GIMP. We are however not responisble for providing binary packages
of The GIMP. So, perhaps you want to contact the creator of the binary package
you are using and offer your help to update it?
