Description jmw 2004-01-22 20:05:10 UTC

Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.2.2 2.2.4

Synopsis: Error when changing case on FAT filesystem
Bugzilla-Product: nautilus
Bugzilla-Component: File and Folder Operations
Description:
I have a directory on a FAT file system, where some files begin with a
capital letter, and others don't. I wanted to capitalise all the files.
When I however tried to rename (right click in Nautilus, Rename ...)
"file1.jpg" to "File1.jpg", I got the message "The name "File1.jpg" is
already used in this folder. Please use a different name.". What did
work is rename "file1.jpg" to "Ffile1.jpg", and then rename "Ffile1.jpg"
to "File1.jpg".

I understand why this is technically so (i.e. filenames on a FAT
filesystem are not case sensitive), but this definitely poses a
useability problem.
