GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 132232
Error when changing case on FAT filesystem
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: nautilus Severity: normal Version: GNOME2.2.2 2.2.4 os_details: Ximian, Inc. Synopsis: Error when changing case on FAT filesystem Bugzilla-Product: nautilus Bugzilla-Component: File and Folder Operations Description: I have a directory on a FAT file system, where some files begin with a capital letter, and others don't. I wanted to capitalise all the files. When I however tried to rename (right click in Nautilus, Rename ...) "file1.jpg" to "File1.jpg", I got the message "The name "File1.jpg" is already used in this folder. Please use a different name.". What did work is rename "file1.jpg" to "Ffile1.jpg", and then rename "Ffile1.jpg" to "File1.jpg". I understand why this is technically so (i.e. filenames on a FAT filesystem are not case sensitive), but this definitely poses a useability problem. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2004-01-22 15:05 ------- Reassigning to the default owner of the component, nautilus-maint@bugzilla.gnome.org.
