GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 132208
Allow creation of patterns in pattern dock
Last modified: 2010-06-29 19:18:12 UTC
when clicking "new" in the patterns dialog, it creates a grey rectangle in the middle of other patterns, but when right clicking it, "edit pattern" is disabled. if then the refresh button is clicked, the just created pattern vanishes. (saving a pattern from gimp as .PAT to patterns directory works ok though)
This functionality hasn't yet been enabled. To create a pattern, save an ordinary image file in $HOME/.gimp-1.3/patterns with the extension .pat. This should be made easier in 2.2 (at least we should have a similar option to Photoshop's "Save to pattern" or whatever it's called, which automatically sets the destination directory and the file extension). Dave.
Considering that the Edit Pattern... button and menu-item are not attached to anything, perhaps they should be taken out until somebody actually implements the accompagnying functionality. I fear it may not be very good interface design to leave non-functioning interface elements in.
By the way, having a broken button is a bug, so the target should be 2.0 or 2.0.1, not 2.2. Should I open a separate report for this?
The Edit button and menu-item are gone in GIMP 2.1. Thus this bug doesn't need to be on the 2.2 milestone.
We now have "Edit->Paste as New Pattern" in GIMP 2.3. Not exactly what the bug reporter is asking for but then it isn't clear at all whether the users would look in the list of patterns when they intend to create a new one.
There is no 'New' button in the Paterns dialog any longer. Closing as OBSOLETE.
