[UI-REVIEW] Can't launch capplet from applet
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
I kind of expected to be able to launch the Keyboard Preferences capplet from the applet's context menu, to allow me to change groups etc., but I don't see any way to do this. Would it be useful?
OK. If you think it is useful - no problem, I'll add it.
Well, I'm really not the target audience for this applet, which is why it was more of a question than a recommendation :) You probably know better than me whether it would actually be useful or not, it just felt like it was something that might be missing. Admittedly there could be a problem in deciding what to call it, as you already have (or are about to have) a "Preferences" menu item. If it's possible to make sure it opens the Keyboard Preferences dialog with the Core tab at the front, one option might be to hide it on the Groups submenu... perhaps call it Groups->Preferences or something? (That's another point, actually... there's no mention of "Groups" at all in the capplet, but there is in the applet... so what's the relationship between Groups and Layouts? How can we make it clearer?)
BTW, could you please try to invent the name for the new menu item? This is important., you are right At the mean time, I will think whether it makes sense to put it there anyway...
Changing gswitchit bugs to the libgswitchit component of gnome-applets.
I see you've gone for "Layouts Configuration"... this isn't bad, but I'm not sure it's gramatically correct with that plural. I think "Layout Configuration..." sounds better, and just "Layouts..." might be best of all since that matches what it says on the tab in the dialog that opens.
Just "Layouts..." is ok for me. Fixing it in CVS now.
